Non‐Aqueous Electrolytes for Sodium‐Ion Batteries: Challenges and Prospects Towards Commercialization

Integration of Na-ion batteries (NIBs) as a complementary energy storage device to the presently dominating Li-ion battery (LIB) technology is must, considering cost and sustainability issues lithium. However, despite important laboratory-scale achievements concerning electrodes electrolytes, improvements needed for realizing devices meet users demands are being relatively slow. More specifically, development suitable electrolytes remains bottleneck that restrains this from meeting commercial requirements, hence defining future challenge. This review explains design strategies in use NIB with special emphasis on intrinsic differences between Li- chemistries, which at origin difficulties associated discovery optimum NIBs. We highlight key requirements an electrolyte must satisfy related experimental techniques could be used quick screening exploiting devices.
